What is Vitamin D3, Anyway?

Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, is your body’s way of bottling sunshine. When UVB rays hit your skin, voilà—your body gets to work making this essential vitamin. In sunny seasons, lighter-skinned folks in the UK can soak up enough D3 with just 13 minutes of midday sun, but those with darker skin need a bit longer to catch those rays.
Why Should You Care About Vitamin D3?
Sunshine in the UK isn’t exactly reliable, and from October to March, UVB rays take a holiday. That’s when your vitamin D levels can nosedive—sometimes by 50%! While oily fish and eggs try their best, they can’t quite fill the gap. Supplements are the superhero solution, especially for:

- Seniors (65+)
- Little ones (5 and under)
- Expecting or breastfeeding moms
- People with darker skin tones
- Anyone who’s house or office bound, works nights, or prefers a covered-up wardrobe.
You are deficient of Vitamin D if your levels are below 29nmol/l. However, optimum levels are suggested to be greater than 125nmol/L.
Optimal - 125-199 nmol/L
Sufficient - 75-124 nmol/L
Low - 30-74 nmol/L
Deficient - less than 29 nmol/L

If you are not aware of your Vitamin D levels or fall into one of the categories above, then get your vitamin D levels tested. If your GP won't do one the tests are cheap and easy to do privately. I can help you with that! You can ensure that, where needed, you have an excuse to go on an extra holiday to get more sunshine or to take the appropriate dosage of superhero vitamin D sunshine supplements to improve levels and achieve better health.

How Much Do You Need?
The UK suggests at least
10-15μg (400-600 IU) a day for most people, and even breastfed babies should get their dose (8.5–10μg). Many experts think a little more sunshine in your supplement could be the key to feeling your very best.
